Start navigation for your first stop
Start your assigned route in the Upper driver app, then tap Navigate on the first stop to open directions in your default map app — Google, Apple, Waze, and more.
When you open an assigned route in the Upper driver app, you can start navigating to your first stop with a single tap. Upper can either guide you with its own in-app navigation or hand the address off to the map app you already use — Google, Apple Maps, Waze, Map's.Me, Yandex, or Sygic.
This guide uses driver and delivery labels (Navigate, Proof of Delivery). If your workspace is set to service mode, you'll see Technician and Proof of Service instead — the steps are the same.
Before you start
- Your preferred map app installed on your phone (unless you use Upper's In App Navigation)
- Location permission granted to the Upper app and to your map app
- An assigned route showing on your home screen
Start navigation to the first stop
Open your assigned route
Tap the route on your home screen to open it. Your stops appear in their planned sequence, with the first stop at the top.
Begin navigation to the first stop
Tap Navigate on the first stop. Upper opens directions to that stop's address.
Follow the directions, then return to Upper
Drive to the stop using the directions. When you arrive, switch back to the Upper app to complete the stop and capture proof of delivery.
Which map app opens
Navigation opens in your default navigation map. Upper supports:
- Apple
- Waze
- Map's.Me
- Yandex
- Sygic
- In App Navigation (Upper's own in-app navigation) — an optional add-on that appears only when your admin has added it to your workspace
You can set or change your default in the app under Settings > General > User Settings > Default Navigation Map. Your admin can also set a navigation preference for your profile from the web app, and you can change it on your phone.
Keep the Upper app running in the background while you navigate. When you arrive, switching back to Upper is faster than reopening it — and your route stays loaded so you can mark the stop complete right away.
