Download routes for offline use

There's no manual download button in the Upper driver app. Open your route while you have signal and the route data is stored on your phone for offline use.

There's no separate "download" button in the Upper Route Planner driver app. Open your assigned route while your phone has a connection, and the route data is stored on the device. From there you can keep working if you lose signal, and the work you do uploads when the connection comes back.

How it works

Open the app while you have signal

Open Upper at the depot or anywhere with a reliable connection before you head out.

Open your route

Tap your assigned route to view it. Loading the route while you're online is what stores it on your phone.

Head out

Once the route is loaded, you can view your stops and work them even if your connection drops along the way.

Open and view your route while you still have a strong signal — for example, in the parking lot before you leave. If you only first open the app in a low-coverage area, the route may not be available. A few seconds of strong signal is usually enough.

What you can do offline

The Upper driver app is designed to keep working in the field when your connection drops. For the full list of what works without a connection and what needs to reconnect, see Use the app offline.

Upper does not store map tiles for offline navigation. Turn-by-turn directions are handled by your navigation app, which needs a connection. If you'll be off-grid for a long stretch, download offline maps in your map app (for example, Google Maps) before you go.

Troubleshooting

Your workspace may use different labels — for example, Technician instead of Driver. The steps are the same whatever the labels.
