Participate in crew chat

Crew Chat in Upper is a team messaging space for dispatchers and drivers. Use the General channel for workspace-wide updates or message a teammate one-to-one.

Crew Chat is a built-in messaging space in Upper where your team can stay in touch without leaving the app. It has a General channel that everyone in your workspace shares, plus the ability to message a single teammate one-to-one. Use it for the kinds of updates and quick questions that come up while routes are being planned, sent, and run.

Your workspace may label the people who run routes as drivers or technicians. Crew Chat works the same way either way — only the wording on screen changes.

Where to find Crew Chat

Crew Chat opens from the Route Plan screen. At the top of that screen, a toggle switches between Route Plan and Crew Chat — select Crew Chat to open the conversation view.

Crew Chat may not appear for every plan. If you don't see the Crew Chat toggle, it may not be included in your workspace's plan — check with your admin.

Use the General channel

The General channel is a group conversation that everyone in your workspace can see. It's the right place for anything the whole team should know.

Open Crew Chat

From the Route Plan screen, switch the top toggle to Crew Chat.

Select the General channel

In the channel list, choose General. The header shows the channel name and how many people are in it.

Type your message

Enter your message in the Enter Message field at the bottom.

Send

Press Enter or tap the send icon. Your message appears in the channel for the team to see.

Message one teammate

Crew Chat also supports one-to-one conversations. Open the member list to find a specific teammate, then send them a direct message. Each person's status shows as Online or Offline, so you can tell who's reachable right now.

Use the General channel for anything that helps the whole team — a road closure, a depot change, an end-of-day handoff. Use a one-to-one message for something meant for one person only.
