Connect Upper to Android Auto

Get Upper directions on your car screen with Android Auto. Set Google Maps or Waze as your navigation app in Upper, connect your phone, and tap Navigate.

Upper hands off navigation to your chosen mapping app, and both Google Maps and Waze work with Android Auto. Set one of them as your navigation app in Upper, connect your phone to the car, and the moment you tap Navigate on a stop, turn-by-turn directions appear on the car's display.

Android Auto is Android-only. On an iPhone, see Connect Upper to CarPlay instead.

Before you start

  • Android Auto set up on your phone — Enable it under your phone's settings (typically Settings > Connected devices > Android Auto).
  • Your phone connected to the car — By USB cable or wirelessly, depending on what your car supports.
  • Google Maps or Waze installed — These are the two navigation apps that work with both Upper and Android Auto. Apple Maps is not available on Android.

Set Google Maps or Waze as your navigation app

Upper uses your Default Navigation Map setting to decide which app opens when you tap Navigate. Set it to Google Maps or Waze so directions hand off to an app Android Auto supports.

Open your navigation settings in Upper.

Set Default Navigation Map to Google or Waze.

Connect your phone to the car and confirm Android Auto is active on the dashboard display.

Get directions on the car display

With your phone connected and Android Auto active, open Upper and start your route.

Tap Navigate on your first stop. Your chosen app — Google Maps or Waze — opens with the stop's address.

Directions appear on the car's Android Auto display. Drive the stop, then return to Upper to move to the next one.

To move to the next stop, switch back to Upper on your phone, complete the current stop, and tap Navigate on the next one. Android Auto picks up the new address automatically while your navigation app stays in focus on the display.

Troubleshooting

If your workspace uses Technician/Service labels, the steps are the same — only the wording on some buttons differs.
