Add delivery notes

Add a note to any stop in the Upper driver app to record where you left a package or why a delivery failed. Notes save with the stop and reach dispatch.

Add a note to a stop in the Upper driver app to capture what dispatch should know — where you left a package, why a delivery failed, or any detail tied to that address. The note saves with the stop and travels back to the web app, where dispatch can see it once the stop is finished.

This article uses the default driver and delivery labels. If your workspace is set to technician/service mode, you may see Service Notes and similar wording instead — the steps are the same.

Add a note to a stop

Open the stop

Tap the stop in your route to open it.

Find the notes field

Look for the notes field on the stop (your workspace may label it Service Notes).

Type your note

Keep it short and factual — for example, "Left at side door under bench" or "Gate locked, no access code."

Complete or skip the stop

Finish the stop. Your note saves with the stop record and syncs back to the web app.

Use a consistent pattern your team can scan quickly — usually what happened plus where, like "Left at front door, on table" or "Customer not home, called twice." Dispatch only needs enough to answer a customer's question.

When notes are required

Your admin can make a note required before you can complete or skip a stop, and this can be set separately for completed stops and for skipped stops. If a note is required, the app won't let you finish the stop until you add one. Notes can also be part of your stop's proof of delivery, alongside photos and a signature.

What's required at each stop is controlled centrally for the whole workspace. If you're unsure why a note is being asked for, check with your dispatcher or admin.

What dispatch sees

Once you finish a dispatched route, your completed stops flow back to the web app under Tasks > Completed, where dispatch sees them with proof of delivery, timestamps, and notes. Your note appears in the completed-stop data (shown as Note from Driver), so dispatch can read it without calling you.
