Message dispatch

Message your dispatcher from the Upper driver app using crew chat. Your dispatcher sees it on the same web dashboard they use to manage routes.

Crew chat is the built-in way to message your dispatcher from the Upper driver app. Type your message, send it, and your dispatcher sees it on the same web dashboard they use to plan and manage routes — so they can reply, update your route, or call the customer right away. It also leaves a written record you can both look back on.

Your workspace may label drivers as technicians and deliveries as service. The steps work the same way whichever labels you see.

Send a message to dispatch

Open the Upper app

Sign in if you are not already signed in, with the email and password you use for Upper.

Go to Chat

Open the Chat (or Crew Chat) section in the app.

Type and send

Write your message and send it. It appears in the thread with your dispatcher right away.

When to message dispatch

Reach out through crew chat whenever something changes the plan or you need a hand:

  • You are running late or stuck in traffic
  • You need help with a delivery
  • A customer has made a special request
  • You hit a road closure or cannot access a location
  • You need to report a safety or vehicle issue

For most situations, crew chat is faster than a phone call and leaves a written record. Save the phone for anything time-critical or safety-related.

How your dispatcher sees it

Your dispatcher works in the Upper web dashboard, the same place they plan routes and send them out. Messages from crew chat show up there, so they can reply, escalate, or adjust your route based on what you tell them. The thread stays available as part of the communication record — useful later when anyone needs to understand why a delivery was delayed or reattempted.
