Configure app preferences
Set your preferences in the Upper driver app — pick your default navigation app and learn which options your admin controls through App Config.
The Upper driver app lets you set a few preferences for how routing and navigation work on your phone — most importantly, which mapping app opens when you start navigation. Some preferences are yours to change in the app, while others are controlled centrally by your admin so every driver works the same way.
Depending on your workspace, the app may show Technician and Service labels instead of Driver and Delivery (for example, Proof of Service rather than Proof of Delivery). The behavior is the same.
Set your default navigation app
Your Default Navigation Map decides which app launches when you tap to navigate to a stop. You can set it per driver from your user settings, and you can change it on your phone.
Open your settings
Open the Upper driver app and go to Settings.
Open General > User Settings
Go to General, then User Settings, and find Default Navigation Map.
Choose your navigation app
Pick the app you want navigation to hand off to. Available options are:
- Apple
- Waze
- Map's.Me
- Yandex
- Sygic
- In App Navigation (Upper's own built-in navigation)
Save
Save your choice. From now on, starting navigation to a stop opens the app you selected.
In App Navigation keeps turn-by-turn inside Upper instead of handing off to a separate maps app. Choose it if you'd rather stay in one screen for the whole route. In App Navigation is an optional add-on, so it appears as a choice only when your admin has added it to your workspace — if you don't see it, check with your admin.
What your admin controls (App Config)
Many capabilities in the driver app aren't set on your phone — your admin turns them on or off for everyone from the web app through App Config. App Config is a workspace-wide permission editor: when an option is turned off, that capability is hidden or blocked in the phone app. Your admin can also customize App Config for an individual driver.
App Config is organized into eight sections:
| Section | Controls capabilities such as |
|---|---|
| Route | Create, delete, duplicate, or clear a route |
| Stops | Add, edit, delete, or duplicate a stop |
| Stop Logs | Undo or update a completed/skipped stop |
| Parcel Info | Parcel place in vehicle, parcel count, parcel photos |
| User Settings | Overriding the default schedule; shift duration tracking (clock in/out) |
| Proof of Service | Whether photos, signature, or notes are required to complete or skip a stop, gallery uploads, and one-tap complete/skip |
| Optimization | Change stop navigation priority ("Go here"), reverse route |
| Navigation | Live location, address-vs-coordinate handoff to the map app, in-app navigation |
If a control is missing or won't change in your app, it's likely turned off in App Config for your workspace. These settings can only be changed by an admin from the web app, not on your phone. Ask dispatch if you need something enabled.
