Pause or end your route early

Pausing a route in the Upper driver app just means stopping — your progress saves automatically. To end early, message dispatch so they can reassign remaining stops.

There's no dedicated "pause" button in the Upper driver app — pausing is informal. When you stop working stops, your progress is saved and the route stays in progress. Ending a route early is a dispatch decision: message dispatch so the remaining stops can be reassigned or completed later. The same flow applies whether your workspace labels people as drivers or technicians.

Pause your route

Pausing isn't a separate action. You simply stop, and Upper holds your place.

Stop navigating and completing stops

Take your break, handle the interruption, or wait out a delay. You don't need to tap anything to "pause."

Leave the route in place

Your completed stops are saved and the route stays in progress. Nothing is lost while you're stopped.

Resume when you're ready

Reopen the route in the app and continue from where you left off.

For a short break — a meal, fuel, or a quick errand — there's nothing to report unless your stop time windows are at risk. If a delay could push you past a customer's time window, message dispatch so they can adjust the plan.

End your route early

If you can't finish the route at all, dispatch needs to know so they can decide what happens to the stops you haven't completed.

Message dispatch

Open Crew Chat in the app and send a message to dispatch.

Explain why you're ending early

Give the reason and the details that matter — your current location, how many stops are left, and anything dispatch needs to act on (for example, a vehicle that needs recovery).

Let dispatch decide on the remaining stops

Dispatch chooses what happens next: reassign the remaining stops to another driver, or leave them to be completed later.

Incomplete stops stay on your route until dispatch reassigns them or they're completed later. They don't cancel on their own.

Common reasons to pause or end early

  • Vehicle breakdown
  • Personal or medical emergency
  • A safety concern — road conditions, area, or vehicle condition
  • Severe weather
  • End of shift with stops remaining
