Set up CarPlay with Upper
Set your navigation app in Upper, connect your iPhone to CarPlay, then tap Navigate on a stop to see directions on your car's display while you run the route.
When you tap Navigate on a stop, Upper hands the address to the navigation app you've chosen — Apple Maps, Google Maps, or Waze — which all work with CarPlay. Set your preferred app once in Upper, connect your iPhone to the car, and the directions appear on the CarPlay screen so you can keep your eyes on the road.
This article uses the default driver and delivery labels. If your workspace is set up for technicians and service work, you'll see labels like Technician and Service instead — the steps are the same.
Before you start
- An iPhone with CarPlay — Your car needs CarPlay, either built in or through an aftermarket head unit.
- A way to connect — A cable or wireless CarPlay, depending on your vehicle.
- A CarPlay-compatible navigation app — Apple Maps comes with iOS. Google Maps and Waze also support CarPlay; install them from the App Store if you'd rather use one of those.
Set your navigation app in Upper
You choose which navigation app Upper hands off to. This setting is per driver, and you can change it any time.
Open your settings in the Upper app
Go to Settings > General > User Settings.
Set your Default Navigation Map
Choose Apple, Google, or Waze as your Default Navigation Map.
Apple Maps is built into iOS, so it works with CarPlay without a separate install. Google Maps and Waze work too — just install them from the App Store first.
Connect and navigate
Connect your iPhone to CarPlay
Plug your iPhone in with a cable, or connect wirelessly if your car supports wireless CarPlay.
Start your route in Upper
Open Upper on your phone and start the route you're running.
Tap Navigate on the first stop
Your chosen navigation app opens with the stop's address loaded and shows the directions on the CarPlay display.
Work the route
When you reach the stop, return to Upper to mark it complete, then tap Navigate on the next stop.
Upper also offers its own in-app navigation as an optional add-on your admin can enable. To switch between Apple, Google, Waze, and Upper's in-app navigation, see Switch between navigation apps.
