Set vehicle capacity constraints

Set vehicle capacity on each driver's profile in Upper so routes respect how much each vehicle can carry. Here's where it lives and how to enter it.

Vehicle capacity in Upper lives on each driver's profile, in the Vehicle Capacity section of the Add User and Edit User panel. Setting it tells Upper how much a given vehicle can hold, so your fleet can be planned around real limits instead of treating every vehicle as if it could carry anything.

Upper uses driver and delivery labels by default. Your workspace may show Technician and Service instead — for example, the panel may read "Technician" rather than "Driver." The steps below are identical either way.

Before you start

  • Where it lives — The Vehicle Capacity section appears inside the Add User and Edit User panel, reached from Manage → Users.
  • When it shows — Vehicle Capacity appears only when capacity is enabled for your workspace. If you don't see the section, it isn't turned on for your account.
  • Capacity dimensions are yours to define — Upper lets you define the capacity dimensions you track (for example, a bin count). Use the dimension that matches how you measure what your stops require.

Keep your unit of measure consistent. Whatever dimension you set on the driver profile should match how the same requirement is recorded on your stops, so the two values can be compared correctly.

Set capacity when adding a driver

Open the Users page

In the left sidebar, go to Manage → Users.

Start a new user

Click + Add User to open the Add User panel.

If your driver licenses are fully used, + Add User shows an upgrade badge and opens an upgrade prompt instead of the form. You'll need an available license before you can add the driver.

Fill in the driver's details

Set the User Role to include Driver, then complete the name, email, and the vehicle and routing settings as needed.

Enter the capacity

Scroll to the Vehicle Capacity section and enter the capacity value for the dimension you track (for example, a bin count).

Save

Click Save to add the driver with capacity set.

Edit capacity for an existing driver

Open the Users page

Go to Manage → Users.

Open the driver's menu

Click the kebab () menu in the Action column for that driver, then choose Edit User.

Update the capacity

In the Vehicle Capacity section, change the capacity value.

Save

Click Save to apply the change.

If a driver switches to a different vehicle, edit their capacity before you plan the routes that vehicle will run, so the new limit is in effect when routing happens.
