Set driver working hours

Set each driver's shift start and end times on their profile in Upper so routes are built and assigned to fit inside the driver's working window.

A driver's working hours live in the Shift Schedule section of their profile in Upper. Set a start time and an end time so each route is built to fit inside that driver's working window.

Upper uses "driver" by default, but your workspace label may show Technician instead (and Service in place of Delivery). This article uses driver/delivery wording; the steps are the same either way.

Before you start

  • You'll need an admin-level account that can edit a driver's profile.
  • Have the driver's real working hours ready, including any time they spend on the road, so the shift window reflects when they can actually run stops.

Set a driver's working hours

Open Users

In the left sidebar, go to Manage → Users.

Open the driver's profile

Click the kebab menu () in the Action column for the driver, then select Edit User. The Edit User drawer slides in from the right.

Find the Shift Schedule section

Scroll to the Shift Schedule section of the drawer.

Set the start and end time

Enter the Start time and End time for the driver's shift.

Save

Save the driver's profile to apply the new hours.

If your drivers spend time before the first stop loading the vehicle, doing a briefing, or finishing paperwork, set the Start time to when that work begins so the whole shift is accounted for.

How working hours are used

The Shift Schedule you set here is the driver's working window. When you assign drivers to a route plan, each driver's Shift Start and Shift End are shown on the assignment screen, so the schedule is part of how routes are built and handed off to drivers.

Shift hours apply to new routing. Routes you've already dispatched keep the settings they were built with — update the profile and re-run the route to apply changed hours.
