Set signature requirements for proof of delivery
Turn on Signature Upload in Upper's Delivery Options so drivers collect a customer signature on screen at each stop before completing the delivery.
Upper lets you require a customer signature as proof of delivery (POD). When you turn on Signature Upload, your driver captures the customer's signature on the phone screen as part of completing a stop. Signature is one of three POD methods in Delivery Options — alongside photo and delivery notes — and you can require any combination of them.
Labels depend on your workspace. By default Upper shows driver/delivery terms like Delivery Options and Proof of Delivery. A workspace set to Technician/Service mode shows Service Options, Proof of Service, and Service Notes instead. Both refer to the same features.
Why require a signature
A sign-on-screen capture is a clean record that the customer was present and accepted the delivery. It's a good fit for high-value packages, business deliveries, and any delivery where you need a receiving party to acknowledge handoff. For contactless or residential drops where no one is present to sign, a delivery photo is usually the better proof.
Before you start
- Owner access — Delivery Options is an owner-only setting.
- Driver phones with working touchscreens — The driver hands the phone to the customer to sign.
Turn on Signature Upload
Open Settings
In the left sidebar, go to Manage > Settings.
Go to Delivery Options
In the Settings sub-navigation, under General, open Delivery Options (shown as Service Options in Technician/Service mode).
Turn on Signature Upload
In the Proof of Delivery Options card, toggle Signature Upload on. You can also turn on Image Upload (photo) and Delivery Notes here — each toggle is independent.
Save
Click Save Changes.
How it works for the driver
Once Signature Upload is on, the driver collects the signature as part of completing the stop:
- The driver hands the phone to the customer.
- The customer signs on the screen.
- The driver saves the signature, which attaches to the stop.
For business-to-business or compliance-driven deliveries, require Signature Upload. For contactless residential drops, turn on Image Upload (photo) instead — there's no one present to sign.
Show the signature on the customer tracking page
If your plan includes Branded Tracking, you can choose whether the captured signature appears on the customer's tracking page. On the Branded Tracking settings, open the POD tab and toggle Show Signature on. The same tab controls whether the POD photo, service notes, and completion timestamp are shown.
