Set photo requirements for proof of delivery

Turn on Image Upload in Upper's Delivery Options so drivers capture a delivery photo as proof. Photos attach to the stop and appear in your proof of delivery.

Upper lets you collect a delivery photo as proof that a stop was completed. When you turn on Image Upload, the photo becomes part of the stop's proof of delivery (POD) record. A timestamped image of the package at the door is the strongest evidence you have when a customer says a delivery never arrived — and for contactless deliveries, where no one signs, it's often the only proof.

Image Upload is one of three proof options you can switch on independently: signature, image, and notes. This article covers the image (photo) option.

This article uses the default driver/delivery labels (Delivery Options, Proof of Delivery). Your workspace may be set to technician/service mode, where the same page reads Service Options and Proof of Service. The settings and steps are identical.

Before you start

  • Who can change this — Delivery Options is owner-only. If you don't see it, ask your account owner to make the change.
  • Driver phones — Drivers capture the photo through the Upper driver app, so their phones need a working camera.

Turn on photo proof of delivery

Open Settings

In the left sidebar, go to Manage > Settings.

Open Delivery Options

In the Settings sub-navigation, under General, select Delivery Options.

Turn on Image Upload

On the Proof of Delivery Options card, switch Image Upload on. You can leave Signature Upload and Service Notes off, or turn them on too — each one is independent.

Save

Click Save Changes.

What happens after you turn it on

Once Image Upload is on, the photo option becomes available to drivers when they complete a stop in the Upper driver app. The captured image is saved with that stop's proof of delivery record.

Pair Image Upload with Signature Upload and Service Notes when you want the most complete record per stop. For contactless routes, an image on its own is usually your best proof. You can mix and match these toggles at any time.

Custom completion statuses

The Delivery Options page also includes a Manage custom service status section, where you can add your own completion reasons (for example, "no one available" or "delivered"). Each status you create maps to either a Fail or a Success outcome. Use the Add Service Options button to create one, and the menu on any row to edit or delete it. This is separate from the photo setting but lives on the same page.
