Customize the driver app appearance
Upper's driver app uses one shared design. You shape the driver experience through App Config settings — proof of delivery, navigation, and the stop fields drivers see.
Upper's driver app uses one shared design for every account. There isn't a visual theme editor for the app's colors, icon, or layout. What you can shape is the experience drivers have inside the app: the proof they collect at each stop, the navigation app their phone hands off to, and which extra fields show up on a stop. Those controls live across a few Settings areas, together known as App Config.
This article uses the default driver/delivery labels (Proof of Delivery, Assign Drivers). Your workspace may be set to show Technician/Service wording instead — for example "Proof of Service." Both label sets point to the same settings.
What you can shape
The driver experience is configured at the account level in Settings, so every driver on every route follows the same setup. The main controls are:
| Control | What it changes | Where it lives |
|---|---|---|
| Proof of delivery | Whether drivers capture a signature, a photo, and/or notes at each stop | Settings > Delivery Options |
| Default navigation map | Which maps app the driver's phone opens for directions | Settings > User Settings |
| Stop fields in the app | Extra custom fields drivers can see and fill in on a stop | Settings > Custom Fields |
Set the navigation app drivers use
The default navigation map controls which app a driver's phone opens when they tap for directions.
Open User Settings
In the left sidebar, go to Manage > Settings, then open User Settings.
Choose the default navigation map
Find Default Navigation Map and pick from the available options (Google, Apple, Waze, Map's.Me, Yandex, Sygic, or In App Navigation).
Save
Click Save at the bottom of the page.
This sets the default for new routes. A driver can still switch their own navigation app from inside the Upper app.
Set what drivers capture at each stop
Proof of delivery options decide which screens a driver sees when they complete a stop — a signature pad, a photo prompt, a notes box, or any combination.
Open Delivery Options
Go to Manage > Settings, then open Delivery Options. (This page is available to the account owner.)
Turn on the proof you need
In the Proof of Delivery Options card, toggle Signature Upload, Image Upload, and Service Notes on or off independently.
Save your changes
Click Save Changes.
For more detail, see Set proof of delivery requirements.
Show extra fields on a stop
If you want drivers to see or fill in more information on a stop in the app, set up custom fields and make them visible to drivers.
Open Custom Fields
Go to Manage > Settings, then open Custom Fields.
Add the fields you need
Add fields under the appropriate section and choose each field's type (Text, Numeric, or Yes/No).
Show them in the driver app
Tick Show custom fields in Driver App, then Save Changes.
