Set driver start and end locations

Set where drivers begin and end their routes in Upper's Schedule Settings so optimization sequences the first stop and the return trip correctly.

Upper uses each driver's start and end address to anchor route optimization. You set these addresses in Schedule Settings, alongside the driver's working schedule and break. When the start and end addresses match where the driver actually begins and ends the day, the optimizer sequences the first stop and the return trip correctly.

Depending on how your workspace is set up, you may see driver and delivery labels (Driver, Schedule Settings) or technician and service labels (Technician, Service). The settings work the same way under either label set.

Why the start and end address matter

Routes are optimized relative to where the driver starts and ends. If the start address in Upper does not match reality, the first stop and the return trip get sequenced wrong — which can add miles or send drivers in the wrong direction. Setting an accurate start and end address is one of the simplest ways to improve optimization.

Set the start and end address

Open Settings

In the left sidebar, go to Manage > Settings.

Open Schedule Settings

In the Settings sub-navigation, under General, select Schedule Settings.

Enter the start location

In Start and End Address of this Technician/Driver, fill in Enter Start Location — where the driver begins routes. This field is required.

Enter the end location

Fill in Enter End Location — where the driver returns after completing routes. This field is required. If the driver starts and ends at the same depot, enter the same address in both fields.

Save

Save your changes.

Set the working schedule and break

Schedule Settings also holds the driver's working hours and break, which optimization uses alongside the start and end address.

  • Schedule (Optional) — set a start time and an End Time (for example, a driver may work 8am to 4pm with a one-hour break).
  • Break Time (Optional) — tick No Break Required if the driver does not take a break.

Set the schedule and break to match the driver's real working day. Together with the start and end address, they give the optimizer the full picture of when and where the driver can work.

Order pickups relative to deliveries

Below the addresses, Pickup Settings controls where pickup stops fall in the route. Choose one:

  • Adjust Pickups in Between Deliveries
  • Adjust Pickups Before Deliveries
  • Adjust Pickups After Deliveries

Pickup stops with crucial priorities and time windows are still optimized accordingly.
