Set proof of delivery requirements

Choose what drivers must capture to complete a stop in Upper. Turn signature, photo, and notes on or off in Settings > Service Options to set your POD rules.

Proof of delivery (POD) is what your drivers capture to confirm a stop was completed — a signature, a photo, or notes. Upper lets you decide which of these your drivers collect, so every completion is documented the same way across your team. You set these rules once for the whole account in Settings > Service Options.

This article uses Upper's driver/delivery labels. If your workspace is set up for field service, you'll see the same controls under Service Options with "Proof of Service" and "Service Notes" wording instead of "Proof of Delivery" and "Delivery Notes." The features work the same way either way.

What you can require

Service Options has a Proof of Delivery Options card with three independent toggles. Turn on any combination that matches how you work:

ToggleWhat the driver captures
Signature UploadA signature collected on the driver's device at the stop
Image UploadA photo taken at the stop
Delivery NotesTyped notes the driver adds when completing the stop

Each toggle is on/off on its own, so you can require one, two, or all three.

Before you start

  • Changing Service Options is an account owner action. If you don't see the page, ask your account owner to make the change.

Set your POD requirements

Open Settings

In the left sidebar, go to Manage > Settings.

Go to Service Options

Under General, select Service Options.

Turn the toggles on or off

In the Proof of Delivery Options card, switch Signature Upload, Image Upload, and Delivery Notes on or off to match what you want drivers to capture.

Save

Select Save Changes.

Your POD settings apply to the whole account, so every driver follows the same rule on every stop. Pick the lightest combination that still gives you the proof you need — requiring all three on every stop adds time at each stop.

Add custom completion statuses

The same Service Options page has a Manage custom service status section. This lets you create your own completion outcomes beyond the defaults, so drivers can record exactly why a stop succeeded or failed.

To add one, select Add Service Options. Each status you create is listed in a table with these columns:

  • # — the status number
  • Name — the label your driver sees
  • Reason Option — whether the status counts as a Success or a Fail
  • Actions — a menu to Edit or Delete the status

Each custom status maps to either Success or Fail, so your reports can separate completed stops from missed ones. Use the row's "…" menu to edit or remove a status later.
