Manually reorder stops after optimization
After Upper optimizes a route, reorder stops by hand to fit local knowledge the optimizer can't see, then lock the route so re-optimizing won't undo it.
Upper Route Planner's optimizer builds the fastest sequence from the data it has. When you know something it doesn't — a tricky parking spot, a customer who's only home before noon, a one-way street the driver hates — you can reorder stops by hand and override that sequence. This guide covers reordering an optimized route and keeping your changes from being undone the next time you optimize.
Why this matters
Optimization is data-driven. Driver knowledge is real-world. Manual reordering is where the two meet — a way to fold dispatcher and driver experience into a route the algorithm couldn't have built on its own.
Before you start
- An optimized route — Run Optimize Route first, then tweak. You can reorder either way, but the usual workflow is optimize, then adjust by hand.
- The route open in Route Plan — Left sidebar, Plan > Route Plan, then open the route.
Default labels in this article are Share to Drivers and driver. Your workspace may instead show Share To Technician and Technician — the label set is configurable, so the buttons work the same either way.
Reorder stops in the optimized route
After optimizing, open the route and switch to the Routes view to see the stop list in optimized order — the depot start row first, then each stop with its estimated arrival time.
Open the route in Route Plan
Go to Plan > Route Plan and open the optimized route.
Switch to the Routes view
The Routes sub-tab shows the ordered stop list: Marker, Title/Name, Full Address, and Estimated Time.
Drag a stop to its new position
Use the drag handle on the stop row to move it up or down the sequence.
Drop it where you want it
The list re-numbers and the estimated arrival times recalculate to match the new order.
Need to move a stop to a different driver instead of just up or down the same route? Box-select stops on the map and use Reassign to another Technician from the selection popover. To hand a whole route to another driver, use Swap route with Technician from the route's … menu in the Timeline view.
Keep your manual order from being overwritten
Re-optimizing rebuilds the sequence from scratch, which undoes manual reordering. To protect a route you've arranged by hand, lock it.
Open the Timeline view
Switch on the Timeline toggle to see each driver's route as a horizontal timeline.
Lock the route
Click the padlock icon on the driver's route row. A locked route is excluded from re-optimization, so your manual order stays put.
If a route isn't locked, re-optimizing it will replace your manual order with a fresh optimized sequence. Lock the route before you re-optimize anything else in the plan.
Push the new order to the driver
Reordering on the dashboard doesn't update the driver's phone on its own. After you've arranged the stops, click Share to Drivers again to push the updated sequence to their mobile app.

Filter routes
Use the Filter and search controls in My Route Plan to narrow your routes by status, date, and more so you can focus on today's runs or one driver's work.
Merge routes
Merge routes in Upper by moving stops from one route into another and re-optimizing. Consolidate drivers, balance workload, or fold a small route into a larger run.
