Add or remove stops from an optimized route

Add new stops or delete existing ones on a route in Upper, then re-optimize so the sequence stays efficient. Edit any route in the route builder.

Plans change after the first optimization pass: a same-day order lands, a customer cancels, or a duplicate address slips into the import. In Upper you can add new stops or delete existing ones on an optimized route and then re-optimize, so the rest of the sequence stays efficient without rebuilding the route from scratch.

Why this matters

Editing a route in place keeps the work you have already done. Instead of re-importing addresses and re-assigning drivers, you adjust the stop list and let Upper re-sequence around your change.

Before you start

  • Plan requirement — Editing stops is available on every plan, including Starter.
  • Open the route in the route builder — Find it under Plan → Route Plan in the left sidebar, then open the route you want to edit.

Upper uses the term driver by default, but your workspace may be configured to show Technician instead (and Service in place of Delivery). The steps below are identical either way.

Step-by-step: add a stop

Open the route

From Plan → Route Plan, open the route you want to edit. The route opens in the builder with the stop list on the left and the map on the right.

Open the Add Stops menu

On the Add Stops tab, use the green "+" menu above the stops table. It offers four ways to add:

  • Add Stops
  • Add Stops (With Details)
  • Import Stops
  • Import Stop With Preview

You can also click a pin directly on the map to add that location as a stop.

Enter the stop details

Add the address and any details you need — for example full name, phone, email, service time, time window, priority, or stop type. Upper validates each new address and shows its status (such as Verified or Duplicate) in the Review column.

Re-optimize

Click Optimize Route so Upper sequences the new stop into the most efficient position, or keep the order you entered.

When you add a single high-priority stop, you can place it manually instead of re-optimizing the whole route. Re-optimizing recalculates the full sequence and may move stops your driver was already expecting.

Step-by-step: remove a stop

Open the route

From Plan → Route Plan, open the route in the builder.

Find the stop

Locate the stop you want to remove in the stops table.

Delete the stop

Open the stop's "…" (Action) menu and select Delete Stop.

Re-optimize

Click Optimize Route to recompute the sequence for the remaining stops.

Optimization needs at least two stops. If you remove stops until only one remains, there is nothing left to sequence.
