Add stops manually
Add stops one at a time in Upper Route Planner with + Add Stop Manually. Type an address, pick a verified match, and the pin drops on your route map.
Upper Route Planner lets you add stops to a route one at a time by typing an address into the route builder. Use this when you have a handful of stops, when you need to slot in a single extra stop, or when you're putting together a quick ad-hoc route without a file to import.
For a small number of stops, typing them in is faster than preparing a spreadsheet. When you have many addresses to add at once, import them instead — see the related links below.
Before you start
- Open or create a route plan. From the left sidebar, go to Plan > Route Plan, then click + Create Route to start a new plan, or open an existing one.
- Have the street address or saved contact details for each stop you want to add.
This guide uses Upper's default driver/delivery labels (for example Assign Drivers). Your workspace may instead show Technician and Service labels — the wording is configurable, but the steps are the same.
Add a stop by typing an address
On a brand-new route the Add Stops tab shows an empty state with the option to add your first stop manually. Once a route already has stops, use the green + menu at the top of the stops table to add more.
Open the add-stop option
On an empty route, click + Add Stop Manually. If the route already has stops, click the green + at the top of the stops table and choose Add Stops.
Type the address
Start typing the street address in the address field.
Pick a verified match
Select the correct address from the suggestions that appear. Choosing a suggested match helps make sure the stop lands at the right point on the map.
Confirm the stop
The stop is added to the Add Stops table and a numbered pin appears on the map. The tab count updates (for example, Add Stops (24)).
Repeat for more stops
Add the rest of your stops the same way.
Pick an address from the suggestion list rather than typing the whole thing yourself. A confirmed match is less likely to put the pin in the wrong place.
Add more detail while you add the stop
If you want to capture more than just the address, use Add Stops (With Details) from the green + menu, or click a stop in the table and open its editor. The Edit a Stop panel has four tabs:
- Basic Info — Address, Full Name, Phone, Nick Name, Business Name, Email (up to 10 per stop), Notes, Service Time (average time at the stop), Time Window (up to 2 windows), and Pre Assigned Drivers.
- Other Info — Priority (Crucial, High, Medium, or Low; default Medium), pin color, and Stop Type (Delivery, Pickup, or None; default None). Service-mode workspaces show a Service label here.
- Capacity — your workspace's capacity field(s).
- Parcel Info — where the parcel sits in the vehicle, parcel count, and a photo upload.
Click Done to save your changes.
Check the address status
Each stop you add gets an entry in the Review column, which shows the result of Upper's address check (for example Verified or Duplicate). A summary indicator at the top of the stops table breaks down the totals, and a warning triangle appears when one or more addresses need attention. An address that can't be located won't have a pin on the map.
What happens next
Adding stops doesn't sequence them. When you're ready, use the floating buttons at the bottom-right of the map:
- Optimize Route to sequence the stops (and to plan across multiple drivers).
- Quick Share to send a single-driver route in the order you entered it, without optimizing.

Add stops from contacts
Build a route in Upper from your saved Contacts: select records from the list, or draw a shape on the contact map, then create a new route or add to an existing one.
Archive and unarchive routes
Upper has no separate archive button. Routes stay in Route Plan until you delete them. Use Filter and the date range to hide old routes from view.
