Remove a stop from an in-transit route
Remove a stop from a route that's already In Transit in Upper, then share the update so the dropped stop disappears from the driver's app without rebuilding the route.
Plans change after a route is already moving — a customer cancels, an address turns out to be wrong, or a stop is no longer safe to service. Instead of recalling and rebuilding the whole route, you can remove the stop from a route that's already In Transit and share the update so it disappears from the driver's app, keeping the rest of the run intact.
Labels in your workspace may read Technician and Service instead of Driver and Delivery (for example, Share To Technician). Both label sets refer to the same features. This article uses the default driver/delivery wording.
Before you start
- Open the route from Route Plan. A route moves through these statuses: Draft → Ready for Dispatch → Dispatched → In Transit → Completed.
- The driver's app needs connectivity to receive the update. If the driver is in a low-signal area, the removed stop may stay on their device until it reconnects — for anything urgent, contact the driver directly.
- If a customer was expecting this stop, plan to notify them about the cancellation or reschedule separately.
Remove a stop from an active route
Open the route
Go to Route Plan in the left sidebar and open the In Transit route you want to change.
Open the stop's menu
Find the stop in the route's stop list and open its row action menu.
Delete the stop
Choose Delete Stop to remove it from the route.
Share the update
Click Share to Drivers (shown as Share Again after the route has already been sent) to push the updated route to the driver's app.
If the removed stop sat in the middle of the run, run Optimize Route (shown as Re-optimize Route after the first optimization) before sharing — the remaining stops may follow a faster path once the gap is closed.
If the driver is already on the way to the stop you're removing, the in-app update may not reach them before they arrive. For removals near the driver's current position, contact the driver directly so they don't drive a wasted leg.
What the driver sees
The stop disappears from the driver's app once their device receives the shared update. Use Live Tracking to confirm the route reached the driver — the driver card and inline stop table reflect their progress against the updated route.
