Create a route from saved contacts
Turn saved contacts into a route in Upper. Filter and select the contacts you want, then create a new route or add them to an existing one as stops.
Contacts is your address book in Upper — saved customer and stop records you can reuse instead of re-entering the same address every time. When you serve the same locations regularly, you can pick the contacts you want and build a route from them in a few clicks.
Because the details live on each contact, you set them once and reuse them. When a contact becomes a stop, its saved information comes along with it.
This article uses Upper's default driver and Delivery labels. Your workspace may be set up to show Technician and Service instead — the labels are configurable, but the steps are the same.
Before you start
- Where it lives — Open Manage > Contacts from the left sidebar.
- What you need — At least one saved contact in your address book.
- Start address — If your route has no depot or start address set, Upper prompts you for one before it builds the route.
Create a route from selected contacts
Go to Manage > Contacts in the left sidebar.
Narrow the list first if you want — use Search or the Filter dropdown to show only the contacts you need (optional).
Select the checkbox next to each contact you want to route. As soon as one or more rows are selected, the toolbar switches to bulk actions.
Open the + menu in the bulk-action toolbar, then choose Create New Route to start a fresh route, or Add To Existing Route to append the contacts as stops to a route you already have.
If prompted, set a depot or start address, then continue. Upper adds the selected contacts as stops.
Filter before you select. If you keep contacts grouped by city, state, or a custom field, applying a filter first means fewer checkbox clicks and a cleaner starting list for the route.
What carries from a contact to a stop
The details you saved on each contact come along when it becomes a stop, so you don't re-enter them per route. A contact's time window carries through reliably to the stop. Other saved details — such as the address, name, phone, email, notes, service time, and stop type — are stored on the contact for reuse in routing.
