Stops And Imports

Add barcodes to stops for scanning

Attach a barcode or QR value to each stop in Upper, either during import or in the stop editor, so the right code travels with the right delivery.

Upper lets you attach a barcode or QR-code value to each stop, so the code that identifies a package travels with the right delivery. You define one or more barcode fields once, then fill in a value per stop — either as a column in your import file or directly in the stop editor.

Barcode fields are a customization you enable first. Setting up the field type, label, and whether it's required happens in Settings → Customization → Barcode Fields. This article covers how to put a value on each stop once the field exists. To set up the field itself, see the related article below.

Before you start

  • Define your barcode field first. Barcode and QR fields are created under Settings → Customization → Barcode Fields. Until at least one field exists, there's nowhere to enter a value on a stop or map a column during import. Barcode fields may be available only on higher plans or require activation — see the setup article for details.
  • Have your barcode values ready. A value can be a number or an alphanumeric code, typically from your shipping label, order system, or inventory tool.
  • Values are normalized on import. When you import barcode values, Upper stores them as uppercase letters, digits, and hyphens. Keep your source values in that format so they match what you scan or print later.

Depending on how your workspace is set up, some labels may read Technician and Service instead of Driver and Delivery. The features work the same way.

Two ways to add a barcode to a stop

Stop editorAdding or correcting a barcode on a single stop

Add barcodes during import

Add a barcode column to your file

In your CSV or Excel file, add a column for the barcode value and fill in a value for each stop. Use uppercase letters, digits, and hyphens so the values match after import.

Map the column during the import preview

When you reach the Review & Import step of the import, your barcode field appears as a mappable target. Map your spreadsheet column to it the same way you map any other field.

Import the rows

Finish the import. Each stop now carries its barcode value.

Add a barcode to a single stop

Open the route and the stop

Go to Route Plan, open the route, and open the stop from the stop list (Edit Stop from the stop's Action menu).

Enter the barcode value

In the stop editor, enter the value in your barcode field.

Save the stop

Click Done to save.
