Specify pickup vs. delivery for a stop
Mark each stop as Delivery, Pickup, or None in Upper. Stop type shows in the driver app, can be added as a column, and clarifies the action at each location.
Every stop in Upper carries a Stop Type so each location shows a clear label of what to do there: Delivery, Pickup, or None. You can set it on individual stops or map it straight from your import file, and it appears in the stops list and the driver app so everyone knows the action at each address.
Labels are configurable per workspace. This article uses the default Delivery / Pickup / None wording. If your workspace is set up for field service, the same setting reads Service / Pickup / None — it's the same feature.
What each stop type means
| Stop type | What it signals |
|---|---|
| Delivery | Drop off items at this location |
| Pickup | Collect items from this location |
| None | General service stop — no drop-off or collection (the default) |
New stops start as None until you choose otherwise.
Set stop type on a single stop
Open the stop
In Route Plan, open the route and click the stop you want to edit to open the Edit a Stop (With Details) panel.
Go to the Other Info tab
In the side panel, switch to the Other Info tab.
Choose the stop type
Under Stop Type, select Delivery, Pickup, or None.
Save
Click Done to save the stop.
Set stop type during an import
You can assign stop types in bulk by mapping a column from your spreadsheet.
Add a stop type column
In your spreadsheet, add a column with one value per row: Delivery, Pickup, or None.
Map it during Review & Import
When you import with preview, reach the Review & Import step and map your column to the Stop Type field in the Map to field dropdown (it's under the Stop group).
Import
Finish the import. Each stop picks up the type from its row.
Stop Type is one of several stop fields you can map on import, alongside service time, time windows, parcel count, and pin color. See What optional fields can I include in my import?.
See stop type in the stops list
Stop Type is one of the columns you can show in the stops list. Open Customize Columns (the settings icon above the list), add Stop Type to your selected columns, and click Done. Drivers also see the stop type in the app.
Sequencing pickups and deliveries
Stop Type is a label — by itself it does not change the order the optimizer builds. To control when pickups happen relative to deliveries (before, in between, or after), use Pickup Settings in the route's Advanced Settings.
To run pickups before paired deliveries or fit them between deliveries, set it up in Advanced Settings → Pickup Settings. See Link pickups and deliveries.

A stop with several parcels in Upper? Set the parcel count, choose where to load it in the vehicle, and add a reference photo so drivers load and hand off the right items.
Email notifications marked as spam
If Upper's delivery notification emails land in customer spam folders, the usual cause is the shared default sender. Sending from your own server fixes most cases.
